What a useful roof quote should say
Ask what roofing system is being proposed, what tear-off is included, how damaged decking is handled, the underlayment and flashing approach, ventilation work, disposal, permit responsibility and warranty.
If the roof does not need replacement yet, ask for repair and maintenance options rather than assuming replacement is the only answer.
Compare contractor credentials and scope

Think beyond shingles
A roof works with gutters, flashing, attic ventilation, siding transitions and drainage. If water problems exist, replacing the roof alone may not address the real pathway.
